China vows closer cooperation with Singapore
Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean in Beijing on Thursday, vowing to boost closer cooperation and facilitate bilateral projects -- such as the Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco-City.
"We hope to work closely with Singapore to strengthen political mutual trust, reinforce the social foundation and advance the construction of the the Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco-City," Li said.
China hopes the two sides will seek cooperation in China's efforts to expand domestic demand and boost the development of its central and western regions, Li said.
He said relations between the two countries had developed well since the forging of diplomatic ties.
Li called on both sides to expand common interests and achieve all-round development of political security links and trade cooperation.
Regarding China-ASEAN cooperation, Li said China supports the leading role of ASEAN in East Asia cooperation, and hopes to cooperate closely with countries in the region, including Singapore, to boost solidarity and regional cooperation, in particular, peace and stability in East Asia.
Singapore is currently China's third largest trading partner in ASEAN.
Teo, also Singaporean Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, said his country hopes to learn from China and cement bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
Earlier in the day, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo met with Teo and exchanged views with him on issues regarding bilateral ties as well as regional and the global situation.
Teo is in China on an official visit from July 4-6 at the invitation of Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan.
Besides Beijing, he will also visit Suzhou on Friday to co-chair with Wang the ninth Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting, an annual high-level platform to review existing collaborations and explore new areas of cooperation.
