Al-Maliki accuses "outside influences" of seeking to divide Iraq
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki accused unnamed "outside influences" of seeking to divide the people of his country in fear of the growing force a united Iraq would pose.
"Iraqis are holding on to their national unity, but it is not possible to overlook the outside influence, which is encouraging a spirit of division," he told a group of ministers and officials in a locally-held conference.
The Iraqi premier said that this is due to "fears of the growing force of Iraq, which some fear as a result of the effects and policies of the past." Iraq is a nation built on a democratic system, ruled by a constitution, and is a country that resolves its problems by peaceful means, he added.
"It (Iraq) does not interfere in the affairs of others and does not allow its own affairs be interfered with, because it has suffered a lot from interfering policies".
