Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, in a phone call with U.S.

Vice President Joseph Biden on Monday, reiterated rejection of all attempts to enter weapons into Syria by any party.

“Prime Minister Maliki said measures were tightened and the joint borders with Syria were placed under close monitoring based on Iraq’s policy to stop the violence and stem Syrians’ bloodshed as a way to pave the way for a peaceful solution,” according to a press release by Maliki’s office.

Maliki reiterated calls to intensify efforts in order to find peaceful solutions to the problems and crises suffered by several countries in the region.

Biden, on the other hand, expressed the United States’ readiness to back Iraq’s efforts to come out of Chapter VII of the UN Charter and solving issues impeding this, including those pending between Iraq and Kuwait.
