Iraq May Not Attend the April 1st Conference Friends of Syria in Istanbul

Baghdad, Iraqi Prime Minister Counsellor, Saturday, Iraq who heads the current session of the Arabic League heading towards non-participation in the Conference "friends of Syria" to be held tomorrow in Istanbul.

Ali al-Musawi, head of the Government media adviser to Maliki told AFP when asked about the position of Iraq to attend Istanbul Conference "we want to preserve the role of mediator."

"This role sometimes requires not to participate in this Conference or even maintain our effective mediation and work towards a solution that preserves the Syrian people of Syrian rights and injects blood."

And that will involve more than 70 countries, including Arab countries on Sunday at the "friends of Syria" in Istanbul aimed at stepping up pressure on Damascus to comply with the plan of UN Envoy Kofi Annan Arabic University.

And Syrian crisis overshadowed the Summit hosted by Arabic Baghdad Thursday amid differences between the Arabic States on how to deal with events in Syria, where protests for more than a year repression system in which thousands were killed.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar taking a tough line towards the Syrian regime and supported arming the opposition, while calling other Arab countries, including Iraq, to dialogue and a peaceful solution.

And called on Arab leaders at the Summit of Baghdad to a dialogue between the Syrian authorities and the opposition, the internationalization of the crisis and Muslims demanding Damascus with immediate application to plan University Arabic Envoy and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said the six-point and aimed at halting the violence.
