EU at G20 June 18-19, EU - Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Luxembourg) June 22nd ...

EU Agenda:

This week, the G20 and the Rio+20 take place; ministers discuss reform of the CAP and a multi-annual Public Health Programme; the Commission presents a strategy to fight trafficking in human beings, and two reports on multi- lingualism and language learning; MEPs vote on plans to tighten up rules governing credit rating agencies; and it's European sustainable energy week. The week's events in the European Union including EU Council, Commission and Parliament meetings and other EU-related conferences and events. Events for the week of 17 to 23 June 2012.

The EU at the G20 summit (Mexico)
Ahead of the Summit, President Barroso and President Van Rompuy sent a joint letter to EU heads of State and Government to inform them about the key issues coming up for discussion at the G20 Summit. They stated that the EU should aim for results in four priority areas, as set out in the Spring European Council Conclusions: 1. Keeping growth and employment at the top of the G20 agenda; 2. Continuing to strengthen the International Financial Architecture; 3. Making substantial further progress on financial market reform; 4. Tackling food security and promoting development.

Friday, 22 June - Council of the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Luxembourg)

The following topics will be on the agenda:

*policy debates on proposals for directives on energy taxation and on
*a financial transaction tax;
*approval of recommendations to each Member State on their National Reform Programmes 2012;
*approval of recommendations to the Member States whose currency is the euro on the implementation of the broad guidelines for the economic policies;
*approval of opinions on the updated Stability or Convergence Programmes of Member States;
*adoption of decisions abrogating the excessive deficit procedures for Germany (10715/12) and Bulgaria; and
*lifting the suspension of commitments from the Cohesion Fund for Hungary.
