Hong Kong seeks to establish closer economic ties with Peru

Hong Kong, Hong Kong seeks to establish closer economic ties with emerging economies such as Peru, one of the fastest countries in Latin America and the world, said Monday Hong Kong's Financial Secretary, John C Tsang,

"It is increasingly important for Hong Kong to establish closer economic ties with emerging markets, such as Peru", Tsang said, according to the Information Services Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Tsang met Monday with Peru's Economy and Finance Minister Luis Miguel Castilla, who is leading a delegation of Peruvian officials and business leaders to visit Hong Kong.

At their meeting, Tsang and Castilla exchanged views on the world economic outlook as well as the opportunities for business cooperation between Hong Kong and Peru.

Tsang said Hong Kong is a prime global business centre with extensive connections with the Mainland China market.

"With a strong presence in Asia, our business services sector will be an invaluable partner for Peruvian companies in the Asian time zone when they seek to capitalise on the shift of international economic gravity from the West to the East," said Tsang.

Tsang also introduced Castilla to Hong Kong's Renminbi business, infrastructure development and economic situation.

Castilla also called on the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
