February 28, 2012Reports of people trapped after Kansas tornado
TOPEKA, Kan. - Kansas Highway Patrol cordoned off the City of Harveyville on Tuesday night due to a search and rescue operation because of a tornado.
First responders from the area have responded to help and there are reports of injuries.
A nearby business owner told NBC News there is lots of damage and houses are either knocked down or completely gone. The local church was also heavily damaged, if not destroyed. There are also reports of gas leaks in damaged homes and reports of an unknown number of people trapped.
No fatalities were confirmed, but there were at least eight to nine injuries.
News media was not being let into Harveyville while authorities conducted a house-to-house search.

Arab League summit looking arrangements in Cairo today
Government: We have not made a decision on a curfew or grant a public holiday
Baghdad - Cairo - Al Sabah "Al Sabah" informed sources in the Arab League that the Assistant Secretaries-General will meet on Wednesday in the Secretariat of the Arab League to listen to the final report of the delegation who recently visited Iraq and to discuss all final arrangements for the summit, especially after they arrived most of the invitations to the heads of Arab kings.

Finance: Distribution of shares of citizens from oil revenues in June

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki has run afoul of firebrand Shiite cleric Moqtada Al Sadr, who is now calling describing him as the “dictator of the government.”
Al Sadr’s spokesman clarified that Al Sadr’s statement issued to this effect on Friday night was definitely intended for Maliki and not the government in general.
“The dictator of the government is trying to make all the accomplishments as though they were his accomplishments, and if he cannot he will try to hinder these accomplishments and erase them,” Sadr said in the statement. Sadr movement legislator Jawad Al Hasnawi said that the pro-Iranian cleric was referring to Maliki “because this issue, the dictatorship, began in the previous government and continues until now.”

Interpol swoop nets 25 suspected 'Anonymous' hackers
Interpol has arrested 25 suspected members of the 'Anonymous' hackers group in a swoop on over a dozen cities in Europe and Latin America, the global police body said Tuesday.
"Operation Unmask was launched in mid-February following a series of coordinated cyber-attacks originating from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain," said the world police body based in the French city of Lyon.
The statement cited attacks on the websites of the Colombian Ministry of Defence and the presidency, as well as on Chile's Endesa electricity company and its National Library, among others.
The operation was carried out by police from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain, the statement said, with 250 items of computer equipment and mobile phones seized in raids on 40 premises in 15 cities.

Washington applied its own sanctions against banks dealing with Iran as of June next
The United States announced Monday that the new U.S. sanctions against banks that deal with Iran's central bank to buy the oil will enter into force at the end of June next.

FBI sees more hedge fund trading probe informants
New York, The FBI says it has enough informants lined up to keep its investigations of suspected illegal insider trading at hedge funds going for at least five more years.
In a briefing on Monday with reporters at the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation just blocks away from Wall Street, agents who manage squads of investigators likened the probes to penetrating a secret society.
The investigations are building on a mission dubbed "Perfect Hedge" that have led to the prosecutions of multimillionaire Galleon Group hedge fund founder Raj Rajaratnam and dozens of traders, executives and research consultants since late 2009.
"We have cooperators set up for years to come," said David Chaves, a supervisory special agent for securities and commodities fraud investigations.

In an attempt to address the tension in and out of successive crises, said President Jalal Talabani, his quest to hold a national conference to resolve differences between the political blocs, and met Talabani, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Parliament Speaker Osama al (15/1) as part of preparations for the conference, and held several preparatory meetings later, where he held a preparatory meeting on February 6 in the presence of the President and the Prime Minister and some leaders of political blocs to outline for the conference and presented papers in which to work.

Calls for the enactment of the new .. experts assert the ineffectiveness of the current Banking Law
Baghdad, The head of the Association of private banks Abdul Aziz al-Hassoun to the need for a new banking law legislation regulating the work of private banks in Iraq.
The law of the current Iraqi banks no longer meets the need of banks, it was noted that through the application of the existence of a part of the paragraphs need to amendments or additions, which led to the reluctance of some private banks in their work.
He Hassoun to the existence of differences in some paragraphs of the current law by private banks, which confounded their work and make them regularly in their work, adding that the Islamic banks are still operating without a legal code of its own and this is what makes a mess in the banking business in Iraq.

Too soon to tap U.S. oil reserves: Senator Murkowski
Washington, The government should save its strategic oil reserves for a true supply emergency and resist the temptation to tap them now as a "quick fix" to quell rising gasoline prices, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski said on Monday.
Releasing oil too soon from the salt caverns storing 696 million barrels of crude could have a short-term political pay-off by lowering gasoline prices but would sell the country short if tensions in Iran severely restrict world supplies later this year, Murkowski said in an interview.
"When prices increase at the pump, and politicians get concerned about the repercussions of that, they look for a quick fix," said Murkowski, the top Republican on the Senate Energy Committee.

Baghdad, UN calls for durable solution for Iraq's internally displaced
The top United Nations envoy in Iraq has stressed the need to ensure that internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country continue to receive the care and protection they need, while efforts are made to help them return to their areas of origin, resettle or integrate into host communities.
"Our collective responsibility is to ensure that the displaced are adequately cared for as long as they live in displacement, while measures are being taken to plan for their sustainable return, resettlement and local integration, the three key pillars of a durable solutions strategy," said Martin Kobler, the Secretary-General's Special Representative and head of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Organization calls for Ban Ki-moon to use his authority to close the file of the debt with Kuwait and view the withdrawal of Iraq from Chapter VII of the Arab summit

The Ministry of municipalities and public works of Iraq Monday, dissatisfaction, which devoted its general budget, noting that the allocations do not fill the need for implementation of projects planned for completion in 2012.
Minister of municipalities and public works just mhodr at a press conference that "the budget of the Ministry of municipalities up this year to trillion and 530 billion dinars, but this amount is not sufficient for the implementation of projects to be implemented by the Ministry," he said, adding that "a few customizations in 2012 will disable completion of many projects.
Mhodr said that "the Ministry of municipalities carried out an inventory on the POPs per province and found that there is a large deficit in some provinces and other surplus since 2003 to 2011."

EU hits Syria with more sanctions, but little else
European Union foreign ministers agreed new sanctions against Syria Monday, targeting its central bank and seven cabinet ministers to try to curb funding for the government and increase pressure on President Bashar al-Assad.
The measures, expected to be enforced this week, include prohibiting trade in gold and other precious metals with Syrian state institutions and a ban on cargo flights from Syria operated by the country's carriers.
"Today's decisions will put further pressure on those who are responsible for the ruthless campaign of repression in Syria," the EU's high representative for foreign affairs, Catherine Ashton, said in a statement.

Gamal al-Banna’s vision for Egypt would have set him at odds with his elder brother Hassan, the teacher who founded the Muslim Brotherhood as an Islamist movement in 1928 and was assassinated in 1949.
Gamal, Hassan’s last surviving sibling, argues that Egypt today would be best served by a secular leader, and believes that the current mix of politics and religion will eventually fail.
Sitting in his Cairo office surrounded by shelves bulging with books from floor to ceiling, the 91-year-old Islamic scholar said Hassan would hardly recognise the Brotherhood as it is now, poised to enter government.
“There is a very big difference between the Muslim Brotherhood of the 1940s, the time of Hassan al-Banna, and now,” he says. “(Hassan) had aspirations but they were not political ...(He espoused) Islam as a way of life.”
Banned under ousted president Hosni Mubarak, the Brotherhood today holds more than 43% of the seats in the Egyptian parliament, having won more than any other party in the country’s most democratic election in six decades.
The Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party is calling for a new coalition government that it would lead, bringing it closer to a position of executive power that would have been unthinkable under Mubarak’s rule.
Its success has created concern about its conservative social agenda. Though the Brotherhood, whose public focus has so far been on the economy and political reform, says it has no plans to impose Shariah, Egyptians worried about personal freedoms remain unconvinced.
The electoral success of more hardline Salafi groups, which came second to the Brotherhood, has exacerbated those concerns.
“There are genuine fears because the heads of the Brotherhood now and the Salafis who got into parliament, none of them - neither their organisations nor their ideas -reflect that they are people who live in this day and age and understand how a nation can progress,” said Gamal al-Banna.
Gamal, noted for his liberal Islamic views including opposition to the veil for women and to mixing religion with politics, never joined the Muslim Brotherhood, and cut off contact with the group altogether after his brother’s killing.
Over the years, the Brotherhood has become more extreme on the question of women’s rights because of the spread of Wahhabi thought from Saudi Arabia, he said.
Many of Gamal al-Banna’s publications, which number in the hundreds, have focused on women’s issues. He has argued that wearing the headscarf is not an Islamic, but a Gulf tradition.
Clean shaven, wearing glasses and casual clothes, he said he was opposed to the merging of politics and religion espoused by the Brotherhood, whose slogan has long been “Islam is the Solution”.
“Any nation founded on religion must fail. This has been true in the Islamic and Christian experience,” he said.
Reflecting on the Brotherhood’s performance in the recent parliamentary elections, Banna said its FJP party had ridden to success on the back of discontent with decades of autocracy rather than public support for its programme.
“Many people who voted for the Brotherhood said: ‘We tried Socialism, we tried Nasserism, we tried pan-Arabism, so why not try the Brotherhood?’” he said.
Banna believes Egypt would be best served by a liberal president. Mohamed ElBaradei, the former head of the UN nuclear watchdog, had been the best candidate until he decided to withdraw from the race, he said.
“In the long run, someone like ElBaradei will succeed in Egypt. He was the fittest candidate if not the only one,” the kind of figure around whom the youth protest movement could and should coalesce, Banna said.
The military council that has been governing Egypt since Mubarak was toppled by a mass uprising last year has said it will hand power to the new president at the end of June. An election date has yet to be set.
The reform movement has a long way to go, Banna said, adding “This was a popular uprising that succeeded in destroying a system, but not in building a new one.”
Banna fondly recalled a happy childhood with his two brothers and two sisters in the city of Mahmoudeya near Alexandria.
Their father was a watch mender who spent years penning interpretations of the sayings of Imam Ahmed Ibn Hanbal, the originator of the strict, conservative Hanbali school of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence.
Banna recalled how, as children, Hassan and his friends had played out battles between Muslim and infidel armies. Both he and Hassan had been strongly influenced by their “deep-rooted Islamic heritage”, he said.
Hassan formed the Brotherhood while working as a teacher in the northeastern city of Ismailia in the 1920s, spreading his ideas in cafes and creating branches of the movement across northern Egypt before expanding it into a national organisation.

The House of Representatives has postponed a vote on the draft general amnesty law for the lack of consensus between the various political blocs.
The draft general amnesty law has sparked controversy among the political blocs, especially among a coalition of state law and the Sadrist movement, to demand the rule of law to amend certain paragraphs of the project that define the categories covered by the amnesty or not.
The House of Representatives voted during its meeting held on 23 February on a number of laws, particularly the financial budget for the year 2012 and postponed to 6 sessions of March next.

Zebari: Iraq is ready to address the outstanding issues with Kuwait in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions

Yes, it's high time we went, much work to get done out here. Credit must go to those due it. The rvs got done and are currently checking the 'system' repetitively to make sure these computers are 'talking' to each other. A problem that had to get rectified a couple of days ago.
