3/5/2012Kuwait to partake in GCC meeting in Jeddah
JEDDAH, Kuwaiti member of the GCC's Supreme Consultative Council Sulaiman Al-Shaheen arrived in Jeddah late Sunday to partake in the council's 15th meeting to kick-start on March 6-7.
Al-Shaheen told KUNA that the meeting would touch on the formation of a GCC confederation in addition to topics related to civil aviation, health, employment, and the youth.
The Kuwaiti official also touched on the Saudi initiative, proposed during the 32nd GCC Summit held in Riyadh by King Abduallah bin Abdulaziz last December, which called for transforming the GCC into a Union, saying that the issue would be brought up during discussions.
The GCC consultative committee was came to be on a resolution which came out of the 18th GCC summit which was held in Kuwait.
The committee consists of 30 members, with each GCC state having five representatives.

The situation in Greece should create some big headlines this week. The bond exchange “invitation” is set to expire at 3pm EST on Thursday March 8th.
This is the so-called Private Sector Involvement or PSI. Greece has other steps to take during the week, and ultimately the Troika will determine how to proceed with the bailout, but not until the results of the PSI are known.
It could be a week of confusing, misleading, and market moving headlines. Figuring out the “proper” reaction to each bit of news will require understanding the terms, and hoping the headlines are accurate – which given how confusing the situation is, cannot be fully counted on. Remember, the original “invitation” from the Greek government was for an amortizing bond, which was then changed to a series of 20 “bullet” bonds, so the level of confusion remains high.

The Israeli regime to test-fire advanced anti-missile system
Israeli will test-fire for the first time an advanced anti-missile system developed in cooperation with the United States to bring down ballistic missiles in space.
"The first test of the advanced Arrow 3 weapon system will be performed in the near future, confirming the interceptor missile's effectiveness," Itzhak Kaya, Head of Arrow Missile Program in Israel Aerospace Industries, announced in a statement on Thursday.
According to Kaya, Arrow 3 which is the improved model of the Arrow missile system upgraded by "Green Pine" radar system, “is more capable than ever to deal with future threats.”
“The preliminary test of the system which was conducted a few weeks ago was successful. The Arrow weapon system demonstrated improved identification of attacking missiles, ensuring successful target interception with high levels of certainty,” he said.

New Delhi, An Indian trade delegation will travel to Iran next week to explore “huge opportunities” created by US-led sanctions over the Islamic republic’s disputed nuclear programme, an export group says.
The group will visit Iran from March 10-14, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations said late Friday, adding exporters had settled a major problem on how to receive payments from Tehran in the face of sanctions on dollar deals.
“We are expecting to get a lot of business from this trip,” Anand Seth, spokesman for the Federation of Indian Export Organisations, a government partner in promoting trade, said.

Baghdad, Iraq's central bank placed private bank WarkaBank under guardianship to supervise it through insolvency, a senior official in the central bank said on Sunday.
Warka Bank had been in talks with Standard Chartered Plc to sell a stake last year, but the talks reached a dead end, said Mudher Kasim, deputy governor of the central Bank of Iraq.
'We gave Warka a chance to have Standard Chartered to be a partner but that did not happen, so there was nothing we could do as a financial authority ... but to intervene as a guardian,' Kasim said.
He said the central bank would appoint a new administration to run Warka Bank, which would be given a month to appoint an auditor to determine how to restructure it and whether it needs to sell assets to raise capital.

GCC seeks ‘adequate’ conditions for summit
The Saudi foreign minister said yesterday that leaders of the six-nation Gulf Co-operation Council may not attend an Arab summit in Iraq this month unless “adequate” conditions are met.
“We will not boycott” the March 29 summit in Baghdad, Prince Saud al-Faisal told a news conference after GCC foreign ministers met in the Saudi capital. “The Gulf Co-operation Council is determined to attend but the level of participation will depend on the availability of adequate conditions,” he said.
He explained that “the problem of the Baghdad summit is not one of security,” but was due to “some parties close to the Iraqi government who are interfering in the affairs of Kuwait and Bahrain.”

Iraq’s government said yesterday it had demanded the autonomous Kurdish region hand over Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi for trial on charges of running death squads, a case that caused a political crisis when US troops withdrew last year.
Iraq issued an arrest warrant for Hashemi, one of the top politicians from the Sunni minority, in December on the eve of the withdrawal of the last US troops.
That triggered a political crisis - with Hashemi’s Sunni-backed bloc announcing a boycott of parliament and the Shia-led cabinet - and raised fears of a renewal of the sectarian violence that killed tens of thousands of people in 2006-07.
The crisis has abated somewhat in recent weeks, with most members of Hashemi’s Iraqiya bloc agreeing to lift the boycott.

A few days ago a vip flew out of the us, with military guard, to put an end to this long wait, everybody who's somebody in the this whole thing, also showed up at the same place. It was a kind of 'speak now or forever hold your peace' thing. The 'wrap up', if you will. It was always going to come, one just needed the patience to wait and not go off, with your hair on fire screaming...'it'll never happen!' If you believe we're all going to hell in a hand basket, I can't help you nor can anyone else. Time certainly moves along, and you'll always see the results of your beliefs....if there are others that don't share them, you'll see that, too. Like people turning their back on you because you're no fun to be around....always got something negative to say. One must necessarily decide on whether they will live in fear of everything or choose to look at the light at the end of the long dark tunnel.
The wrap on me is, I don't see the Real world and all this happy talk is a result of being a babe in the woods. 'Scuse me, maybe I don't choose to give energy to the obvious in this world. You can always find a 'turd', in the woods, can you find the fruit or the good Mushrooms? That determines whether someone survives the woods, doesn't it?

Said an adviser to Prime Minister Fadel Muhammad that most of the money and Iraqi oil revenues are deposited in the U.S. central bank, adding that Iraq needs to renew the protection for these funds in order not to allow any company booking it.
Said Mohamed told the Euphrates News Sunday that the money and returns either whether reserve funds the CBI or the money the Iraqi government due to export the oil now found in America by 90% or more.
He said that Iraq needs to be protected from lawsuits in the United States the fact that most of the money deposited to it, pointing out that we need a presidential decree U.S. the renewal of protection so as not to come any company, whether U.S. or non-US to reserve the money and file a lawsuit on them, and therefore the money will be protected in the United States of America.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin won six more years in the Kremlin, exit polls and preliminary results showed, amid allegations of fraud similar to those that sparked protests after a December parliamentary vote.
Putin, 59, who’s been in power for 12 years including the last four years as premier, got 58.3 percent of the vote, the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion, or VTsIOM, said, citing an exit poll of 159,161 people. Putin got 59.3 percent, according to an exit poll by the Public Opinion Foundation, or FOM. He scored 61.81 percent, with 15.1 percent of votes counted, the Central Electoral Commission said. Official results are due tomorrow.

MOSCOW – Opposition leaders and Russian observers said Sunday they are seeing widespread violations in elections that are expected to return Vladimir Putin to the Kremlin.
Putin, who was president in 2000-2008, is expected to easily win the Sunday election against four challengers. But if credible evidence of vote manipulation emerges, it would bolster the determination of opposition forces to continue the unprecedented wave of protests that arose in December.

Washington - Diplomats from North Korea and the United States plan to meet in Beijing next week to discuss "technical" issues to implement Washington's promise to provide 240,000 tons of "nutritional assistance," the US announced.
Robert King, the US special envoy for North Korean human rights, will meet a North Korean counterpart on Wednesday, according to US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland.

Officials said Central Command has sought to compensate for the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq in late 2011. They said Centcom wanted to deploy small elite forces at bases in countries that neighbor Iraq, including Jordan, Kuwait and Turkey.
Officials said the Defense Department and Central Command were considering expanding the U.S. military presence in Jordan. They said Amman and Washington were examining the feasibility of constructing a base in eastern Jordan for U.S. Special Operations Command.
