Obama to meet Chinese President after blunt words on N.Korea
US President Barack Obama will on Monday press China to persuade North Korea to abort its planned rocket launch, as his patience runs out with Beijing's handling of its belligerent nuclear neighbour.
Obama and President Hu Jintao will hold talks on the sidelines of a nuclear terrorism summit in South Korea. Their attempts to keep ties stable, despite domestic political turbulence in both nations, will be put to a severe test.
With North Korea vowing to launch a satellite next month, Northeast Asia is again on edge. Obama made clear in unusually direct language in Seoul on Sunday that he did not believe China's approach was bearing fruit.
While sympathising with its lot in sharing a border with the North, Obama suggested it was time for a change in Chinese strategy.

Baghdad is closed down all week and is under high security for the Arab League Summit which is taking place on Thursday, March 29th.

SEOUL: US President Barack Obama and dozens of other world leaders will begin a summit on Monday on curbing the threat of nuclear terrorism, but North Korea's atomic plans will be in focus on the sidelines.
The two-day meeting in South Korea is a follow-up to an inaugural summit in Washington in 2010 hosted by Obama, which kick-started efforts to lock up fissile material around the globe that could make thousands of bombs.
Obama announced on the eve of the Seoul event, which will gather leaders or top officials from 53 nations, that Ukraine had fulfilled a pledge made two years ago to remove all highly enriched uranium from its territory.
"I believe it is a preview of the kind of progress we are going to see over the next two days in confronting one of the most urgent challenges to global security - the security of the world's nuclear weapons and preventing nuclear terrorism," Obama said.
While North Korea's nuclear programme is not officially on the agenda in Seoul, it is expected to be intensely discussed on the sidelines as world leaders take advantage of the opportunity of face-to-face meetings.

Obama visits border amid N.Korea tensions
US President Barack Obama visited the tense inter-Korean border Sunday, calling it "freedom's frontier", as he weighs a response to North Korea's planned rocket launch.
Obama is visiting South Korea to attend a 53-nation summit starting Monday on combating atomic terrorism. But the nuclear standoff with North Korea and Iran, and the upcoming launch, are set to dominate sideline discussions.
Obama told US troops in a dining hall at Camp Bonifas near the border they are part of a "long line" of soldiers who have enabled South Korea to prosper.
"You guys are at freedom's frontier," he said. "The contrast between South Korea and North Korea could not be clearer, could not be starker.
"I could not be prouder of what you do."

The four-day meetings, starting Sunday, will bring together some 400 banking leaders and executives from 50 countries. QNB is the diamond sponsor to the summit on ‘Reframing the Future of Trade Finance’.
The previous meeting was held in Beijing (China).
The meeting is designed to take stock of the current volatile economic climate, and features recent ICC market intelligence on trade finance.

Asian nations to double currency swap deal
Tokyo, Japan and 12 other Asian countries will likely agree to double the amount of funds available under a regional currency swap pact amid uncertainty over the European debt crisis, a report said Sunday.
Japan, China, South Korea and the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are to agree to double the fund from the current $120 billion this month, Japan's Nikkei daily reported, citing unnamed sources.
The currency swap deal, known as the Chiang Mai Initiative, is designed to prevent a financial crisis in countries with relatively small foreign exchange reserves by giving them a safety net against future liquidity shortages.
Currently, up to 20 percent of the $120 billion in available funds can be used without linkage to loans by the International Monetary Fund.
The so-called ASEAN+3 countries are also expected to agree to raise this percentage significantly to prevent the European debt crisis from causing major damage in Asia, the Nikkei said.
The countries are expected to reach a broad agreement on strengthening the functions of the Chiang Mai Initiative at a meeting of senior finance officials in Cambodia at the end of this month, it said.
The agreement is expected to be finalised in May at a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from the ASEAN+3 countries, it said.

Asian nations to double currency swap deal
Tokyo, Japan and 12 other Asian countries will likely agree to double the amount of funds available under a regional currency swap pact amid uncertainty over the European debt crisis, a report said Sunday.
Japan, China, South Korea and the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are to agree to double the fund from the current $120 billion this month, Japan's Nikkei daily reported, citing unnamed sources.
The currency swap deal, known as the Chiang Mai Initiative, is designed to prevent a financial crisis in countries with relatively small foreign exchange reserves by giving them a safety net against future liquidity shortages.
Currently, up to 20 percent of the $120 billion in available funds can be used without linkage to loans by the International Monetary Fund.
The so-called ASEAN+3 countries are also expected to agree to raise this percentage significantly to prevent the European debt crisis from causing major damage in Asia, the Nikkei said.
